Wedding Photos

Hello,

My cousin Josh's wedding last Friday was lovely!  The day was perfect and they made such a cute couple.  Everything went great with the favors and the cake, no tragedy ensued, it was a wonderful celebration.   I thought I'd share some of the pictures with you all.

The boys with the groom.  I just noticed when I uploaded this that all of these guys are my cousins except for the little guy on the end.  The two on the left are from my Dad's side of the family and the other three are from my Mom's side.  You may even recognize Kyle (the first one on the left) from the wedding the week before, which was his sister's.

After the reception some of us went over to the groom's aunt and uncle's cottage on the water and we lit those big Chinese lanterns that float away.  It was the most magical way to end the night watching them fly above the water.  It really was such a fun weekend and we all feel very blessed to have Sheena as a part of our family.  I wish them all the best as they start this new chapter of their lives.

Wedding Favours

These are the wedding favours I made for Josh and Sheena's wedding.  They're bride and groom truffle pops, just like the cake pops, but made from vanilla truffles instead of cake, because that's what Josh requested.  They're were a bit tedious, but worth the effort with how cute they turned out.  I'll have to snap a picture of how Sheena packaged them, they look adorable!

Wedding Weekend Recap

Hello,

We had such a lovely time this past weekend at my cousin Micaela's wedding.  The day was perfect, with only a light warm breeze, dappled sunlight, and no rain even though the skies threatened it a few times.  The whole wedding party was gorgeous, but the bride was especially radiant.  She is the most extraodinary girl - full of love, a bubbly personality, always has a good word to say about everyone, and a smile that can light up a room.  The groom is a wonderful man who is going to be an even more wonderful husband.  The two of them make a truly beautiful pair.  I'm very excited to see what the Lord has in store for them in their new life together.

This is the whole family - Grandparents (my Uncle Don and Auntie Ruth), Mom and Dad (my cousins), and the bride's two sisters and brother, and the happy couple.

As I mentioned, there wasn't wind (praise the Lord!), just a nice light breeze, so all went well with my dress.  Here are a few photos Mom snapped of me in it before the cerimony.

All in all, it was a truly blessed day and so much fun.  I wish the happy couple all the best in the world, they deserve it!!

The next day (Saturday) I got to spend some quality time with my sister and our friend Jess (she's really like an adopted sister).  She lives around 8 hours north, so we don't get to see each other nearly as much as we'd like, so when we do get together there's always lots to catch up on.

Sunday I did laundry, blocked a few shawls, washed a baby blanket I crocheted for a gift, and packed to go visit my sister for a few days.  My cousin Josh and his lovely bride-to-be Sheena's wedding is this coming Friday and since I'm doing the cake I can just go visit for a few days, but this is the only time I can go for the rest of the summer, so I wanted to make sure I fit it in.  It's always so much fun to go and stay with her.

Busy Few Days

Hello!!

I'm just popping in to let you know that the I'm doing cupcakes for a wedding on Saturday so things might be a little quiet around here for the next few days.  It's funny how this time last year I was doing almost the exact same thing, except I was making my sister's wedding cake.  It must just be a wedding-time of year.  Sometimes it seems like it has been so long since they got married and other times it doesn't seem possible that it will be a year on Sunday!! 

I've been getting a lot of knitting done both yesterday and today since I seem to re-direct my nervous energy into making things.  This is actually coming in very handy because I have a lot of projects that need to get done.  I remember last year that during the time I was baking the cake, I started knitting Susan's pattern for the Happily Ever After Mitts.  I even remember knitting them in the car on the way to the rehearsal.  I was so nervous that I just had to make something and these were just the thing!  They distracted me enough that I didn't worry too much, yet weren't so involved that I couldn't focus on other things at the same time.  I'm so glad that I did knit them because now they have such happy memories tied right in.  Every time I wear them I recall so many good things from what was such a special moment in our lives.

P.S. Daniel is doing great and has had all tubes except his feeding tube removed.  He is able to talk and has even been up walking with a walker!!  We are all so amazed at the miracles of God and so grateful for all his healing and progress!!  Thank you everyone so much for your prayers, they are much appreciated!!

The Wedding Cake

Hello Knitters,

This was the wedding cake.  When I found out I couldn't really do the cupcake plan I originally had, I decided to make this design.  I asked my sister if it would be ok if I deviated from the plan a bit and she said sure.  I never told her what it was going to look like or that there was a fountain in it - it was to be a surprise. (Also I knew if I told her she would have said no right away!)  I've always found fountains in wedding cakes intriguing, so when I seen a design in a book similar to this one, I just knew I had to make it.  Ordering the fountain and the extremely tall pillars was quite an adventure!  I finally found them both on Amazon.com and they got here the same week as the wedding - that was cutting it a little short.  I'm so glad that I stuck with this design though and I think it turned out pretty good.  I was actually happy with it, and most importantly, my sister really liked it!!

Each tier except for two small ones, was a different flavour - black forest, chocolate with vanilla buttercream filling, vanilla with strawberry buttercream filling, coconut with coconut buttercream filling, apple with vanilla buttercream filling, almond hazelnut with almond buttercream filling and two lemon cakes with lemon buttercream filling. 

Well, that's pretty much it for the wedding recap!  Next week I should be back on schedule and have some finished objects to share.  Have a great weekend!!

Wedding Photos

 

Hello Knitters,

Here are a few of the wedding photos!!  The one above is my lovely sister with all her bridesmaids.  The picture was taken here at home just after we all got ready.  Doesn't she look like a fairy princess!?!  I do have to say that she was the most beautiful bride I'd ever seen, and you could just tell the two of them love each other so much!

This is one of my favourites.

Here is the whole wedding party (minus the junior bridesmaid, groomsman, flower girl and ring bearer).  We took pictures in a few different locations, this one is by the "get-away" car.  Although you can't see much of it in the picture, it was quite cute.

 Since all the leaves were gone, and my sister didn't want a fall feeling to the wedding, she chose to have her pictures taken out on the rocks.  It was a gorgeous location!! 

I'm sorry that due to the down-sizing of the photos, they don't look as good as the real ones, but I still wanted to share what I could with you all.

Ten on Tuesdays

Hello Knitters,

Today's Ten on Tuesdays theme is "Things I learned from the wedding." 

1. The day goes by really fast, so make sure you take the time to slow down and ENJOY it!
2. You'll see, be hugged, and kissed by a lot of people.
3. You also will forget those people's names - and likely at the most inopportune times.
4. Unexpected things will happen - for example: you may forget your purse in the shopping cart at the grocery store an hour away, then end up having car trouble on your drive home and have to flag down someone because you now realize your purse is missing and your cell just happens to be in it. However, the good news is that there are still good people out there in the world who will stop to help you out.  - Just ask my Mom, she knows all about this :-)
5. Take lots of pictures, it's the only way you'll be able to remember it all.
6. Make sure to pack snacks.  After the ceremony is over and your nerves have calmed down, you tend to become excessively hungry.
7. Have some flip flops or comfy shoes with you because your feet will get sore and need a break once in a while - or you may have to climb a mountain, and they really do come in handy then!!
8. If you focus on the bride and groom and not on the audience, then it makes it less nerve-racking during the ceremony.
9. It's very good to have one or more super-organized people helping out on the day of to make sure everything runs smoothly.
10. It really is worth all the sweat, tears, disagreements, stress, late nights, and early mornings.  There's nothing better than seeing my sister so happy she glows!!

Miniature Monday

Hello Knitters,

Today's miniature is a tiny ring pillow! 

I'm so sorry that I didn't keep up with wedding week, but the wedding stuff completely took over and I ran out of time at night to do any blogging.  I had a lot of 1:30, 2:30 and 3:00 am bedtimes and I think that if I tried to blog at those times of night it wouldn't have been worth posting anyways!  The wedding went fantastically thanks to a lot of prayer and hard work, and I will hopefully have wedding pictures sometime soon to share.  I never did get a chance to take any with my camera but some of the bridesmaids did.  I'll blog about it more in detail in a couple of days when things get back to normal :-)  Yesterday we had my Uncle's 70th birthday party since all the family was up due to the wedding, then today consisted of going into the city to return things such as Dad's tux then having a visit from some family this evening.  Needless to say, I'm tuckered right out and could use a good nap!!  I think it might take a week just to get back to feeling normal again :-)  However, it was all worth it!!

Also, I just want to mention that amidst all the stuff last week, I received my final swap package from my amazing swap partner Leanne (Lunatic84 on Ravelry) and I will post pictures soon!!  It was so great!!

Well, I'm off to get ready for bed, have a lovely night everyone!!

Wedding Week: Ten on Tuesdays

Hello Knitters,

Today's Ten on Tuesdays theme is '10 Things I've learned about weddings.'

1. Planning a wedding is pretty much like having a second full-time job - just ask my sister!
2. There is a LOT of work that goes into a wedding.
3. It's really not just about the bride and groom - its about both of their whole families.
4. Make sure you carry and use hand sanitizer!!  Always!!  No exceptions!!  Due to the fact that you are run down from all the planning, you tend to pick up bugs more easily. 
5. At the beginning of the engagement there is lots to do, then there are these "quiet months" where you can't do anything, then before you know it the day is upon you and you have more to do than is humanly possible.
6. No matter how many people you think will decline, they really won't. 
7. Always bring a picture of what you'd like your hair and makeup to look like to the hairdressers, they don't do well just going from what you tell them you'd like to look like. 
8. Things will be emotional, so make sure you have a hankie handy - even during the planning stages!
9. Always have someone to guard your money box - this is from recent activity in our area. 
10. Everything will work out in the end - and even if it doesn't, it's not the end of the world and you will still have an amazing day.

Wedding Week is Coming

Hello Knitters,

I hope you are all enjoying this lovely fall weekend.  I know that I'm trying to take in the last of the beautifully coloured leaves.  The weather is a bit chilly, but that's always a good thing for us knitters now isn't it? 

Sorry I haven't been keeping up with things around here very well this last week or so.  I've been super busy and getting even more so now that my sister's wedding is only a week away.  One week....wow!  Time has been flying by and it's almost here!  This last week I've baked, glazed, piped, bagged, tied ribbon bows and froze around 240 sugar cookies - they are destined to be the favours for the reception.  Now of course I didn't do all that by myself, my wonderful Mother helped me out.  I'm so blessed to have such a great Mom!!  She's always willing to lend a hand with whatever I might be up to - no matter how crazy it is or how late at night it happens to be! 

Besides the cookies, I've also begun to bake the wedding cake.  I'm freezing them so that I don't have to bake them all right beforehand.  I'm almost half-way through, which is great.  I was hoping that I would be completely done Sunday night, but apparently the power is going to be off for part of the day tomorrow so that cuts into my baking time.  I've decided that I will try to bake as late as I can tonight to make up for it though since I really need to get working on some other wedding things. 

Anyways, where I was going with all this was that I wanted to say that I'm going to dedicate all next week to wedding-related stuff.  I thought it would be fun to have a 'wedding week.'  I'll try my best to sneak in as much knitting as I can so that it's not all un-knitting-related things.

Wedding Accessories

Hello Knitters,

Today I worked on making earrings for my sister's wedding attendants. They are part of their gifts for being in the wedding party. Since it's so late, I thought I'd just show you a few pictures of how they turned out.



These are the bridesmaids earrings. My sister's colours are navy blue and ivory, so I used grey/blue pearls to coordinate.



These are the ones for the flower girl and the junior bridesmaid. Since they are both younger, I tried to make theirs more small and dainty.

Engagement!!!

Hello,

Today I will get back to my update of what has been going on here over the last few weeks....One of the most exciting things that happened was my sister got engaged!! Her boyfriend of two years proposed last Saturday. We are all very excited, although not nearly as much as she is. I call her my little lovestuck-bride-to-be..this is where I got the name for the Lovestruck pattern! When I finished him and seen his little love eyes, he reminded me of her! I couldn't think of a more appropriate name.

W are now into the planning phase. I've adored weddings since I was a child, and this one will be the first for my immediate family. Since busy season is starting at her work, she's asked me to be co-planner with her (as well as her maid-of-honour!!). I'm very honoured and excited! So far the date is set for October 23rd. We are praying for a beautiful fall!

The picture up above is of the cupcakes I made for her when she got engaged. I put little wedding rings tied together with ribbons on each one. Whenever something exciting happens, I feel the need to bake something!

I have a feeling we will be in "wedding mode" here for the next so many months! I hope you all don't mind my occasional wedding related talk! I'll try to keep it to a minimum!
