Summer Sewing

Good Morning All!!

It is a lovely day here again. Lots of sunshine and warmth. Yesterday actually had a bit of a cool breeze, which was nice since I was outside painting the railings on the deck again. I'm hoping we can get this done today, but that might just be wishful thinking on my part.

I just got in the mail some new books I ordered and I've been completely captivated by them. Two of them are Anna Maria Horner's Seams to Me: 24 New Reasons to Love Sewing, and Heather Ross's Weekend Sewing. These are two very talented ladies. I just love their work! I can hardly wait to make some of these patterns. From Anna Maria Horner's book, I really want to try the Magnetic Personality magnet board, and also the child's Bo Peep Skirt, except I'd like to try and make that in a larger size for myself, it's just so cute. Her book is filled with amazing patterns, fabrics and ideas. Heather Ross's book is an inspiration in itself! She has beautiful photography and great ideas. I'd like to make the Summer Blouse and the Yard-Sale Wrap Skirt for myself, and for one of my cousin's little ones, the Smocked Sundress. I seen her make this on the Martha Stewart show one morning, and I've wanted to make one ever since. Her enthusiasm for her sewing on the show was catchy!! She has such great creative energy. I highly recommend these books for anyone looking for some cute summer sewing projects, I'm so glad I got them when I did. These will give me endless hours of entertainment this summer.

Well I should be making some coffee and then getting to work! I hope everyone is having as nice a day as we are here!

Happy Knitting!! (and sewing of course!) :o)

P.S. I recommend checking out both these ladies blogs (they're included in my favourite blogs list on the sidebar) for lots of ideas and inspirations.

Busy As A Bee

Hello All!

What a lovely day it is here, all warm and sunshiny, I just love it! These are my favourite kind of days, when the sun is hot and the air is warm. I could just bask in it all day long. But instead I will be painting railings. Oh well, at least I'm still able to be outdoors.

I've been super busy these last few days, what with appointments, and getting things ready for the wedding and all. I've been searching everywhere for a cake topper since I'm making the wedding cake for my cousin's wedding on the 4th, but I haven't been able to find what I'm looking for. I think I'm going to have to do some calling around later today to see what I can find. I'm also toying with the idea of making my dress, but I'll have to see how things go over the next few days first.

I've started a new knitting project. I put the little boy's vest on the back burner while I work on this, because I need to have it done by the time I leave for the wedding. I'm making a little girl's short sleeve bolero from Sirdar's Seaside Babes booklet. I'm using Sirdar Snuggly Baby Bamboo in #153 "Jelly Baby." I'll be sure to post some pictures as soon as I get far enough along. So far I've only got about 4 inches of the back done. I need to get a boogie on here if I'm going to have it done in time!!

Well, I need to get myself into my paint clothes and get to work!

Happy Knitting!!

The Past Week

Hello All,

So sorry I haven't been posting!! I've not been feeling a hundred percent these last few days. I'm still a bit under the weather, but finally feel as though I'm on the upward climb.
Things have been busy, busy, busy around here as well, which is why I haven't got in much resting time. Renovations are coming along, but we still have a lot to do. We're hoping to be getting the contractor in here soon to help. There's only so much two women can do!!

However, I do have some exciting news. My cousin who lives about 5 1/2 hours away from me is getting married on July 4th, and has asked me to be in her wedding! I'm very excited for her and her fiance. She's having a small ceremony at the church there, and then from what I've gathered, a reception following at their home. Her colours are white, black and pink, so I have to find a pretty pink dress to wear. I love shopping so this shouldn't be a problem. I'm hoping to be able to be of some assistance to her from all the way down here, as she is doing most of the planning and decorating herself, and maybe it will be possible for me to go up and help out a few days before the wedding, but I'm still not sure about that. I'm very, very excited though!

I have been doing a small amount of knitting lately, but since I've not been feeling well, I haven't gotten too far along on it. I'm making a baby boy's little green vest. It's turning out quite cute, I just love the pattern! It's from Sirdar's Little Sweet Peas #332. The pattern is the boy's v-neck tank. I didn't have any Sirdar yarn in my stash at the time I started it, so I'm using Bernat Softee Baby. I'll post pictures soon! I've got the back done and half of the front, then I have to knit the neck, and arm bands. I hope it all comes together nicely.
Well that's all my news for today!!

Socks!!

Hello All!
What a yucky day today has been. It's been dark and dreary here all day, with the occasional rain storm. I must admit that now I feel slightly different about it as I sit here with my window open listening to the sound of rain falling on the fresh, new leaves. I can just imagine it's making everything grow!! It's such a lovely sound.
Well, my project for today has been a sock. I've been wanting to learn how to knit socks for a while and today I thought I'd give it a try. Ok, I must admit the fact that I promised my sister's boyfriend a pair for his upcoming birthday, might play a part in this... I decided to try a basic lady's sock first in an attempt to learn the ropes before I set out trying to design my own that will fit his liking (which just happens to be a chunky sock that comes close to the knee). The pattern book I'm using is Patons Next Steps Four -Socks and Slippers. The yarn I'm using is Patons Shetland Chunky in Thunder Marl. I just started it this evening due to the fact I wasn't feeling the best today, and have only got a little over an inch done, but I think it looks nice. I can't wait to watch it take shape!!
It's off to bed for me as I have a very long day in the city tomorrow!!

Tired, so very tired...

Hello All!

I must say, it sure has been a busy couple of days here at home! We've been doing some home renovations lately, and both Thursday and Friday were spent staining our almost full wrap-around porch. I had to take today off to let myself, and my muscles, relax. I was hoping to post yesterday, but after we finished, I was just too tired to make any sense!
Sorry this is so short but I just wanted to give a brief update. I'm heading off to bed now for some much needed sleep, but will try to post tomorrow. We are having my sister's 26th birthday party tomorrow and I want to be ready to party! :o)

My First Post

Hello All,

I have been wanting to start my own knitting blog for quite some time, but I've been holding back for fear of not doing a good job. I'm not a writer - half the time I don't even make sense! - but I've been inspired by so many of the wonderful blogs out there that I thought why not give it a try? I hope to share with you my adventures in knitting -and in my life - and in turn, amuse you on occasion. If you can just bear with me as I learn the ropes, I hope my blog will be worth your time stopping by. :o)
Happy Knitting!
